how to make a supreme salad

Salad are by far my favorite thing to eat for lunch, mostly because there are so many options to choose from!

…and if you hate salad its because you’re doing them wrong. Follows the steps below for your best salad yet, I promise.

1. Lettuce: choose from 2-4 different kinds of lettuce to add some depth to the salad such as romaine, ice berg, frisee, radicchio, butter leaf, etc.

2. Protein is a necessity. If you love chicken, then grill some up, dice it and throw it on top of your salad. Any lean protein will work. Some great options are sliced deli meat, canned tuna, grilled steak, hard boiled eggs, grilled shrimp, ground beef or turkey

3. HERBS are your best flavor friend. They add so many different flavors to your salad while also providing so many vitamins and minerals. Key ones to choose from are basil, parsley, cilantro, dill, and mint.

4. Fruit: many people skimp on fruit in a salad when it adds great texture and sweetness. Go for the fresh fruit rather than dried, you’ll be more hydration this way. My favorites are sliced apples, grapes, strawberries, and mango.

6. CRUNCH: add anything with a crunch - veggies, croutons, nuts, or seeds make a great option.

7. Do not forget your CARBS! They had great texture and leave you feeling full after a salad, which may not be filling enough on its own. Plus it provides us with vital energy we need throughout the day. Great carb options: croutons, rice, pasta, quinoa, crackers, tortilla chips

8. Dressing, choose one you love. The lighter the dressing (weight wise) the most crunchy the salad will be. I see salads doused in dressing and instead of tasting great they’re soggy and wilted, I personally hate this but to each their own! Start with a little and you can always add more.

My go to dressing — ¼ cup olive oil, 1 tbsp lemon juice, 1 tbsp red wine vinegar, 1 tbsp dijon mustard salt & pepper to taste. My favorite from the stores are the greek yogurt ones, look in the refrigerated section by the fresh veggies.
